FAQ's

Future and Building

Why do we need land?
Due to consistent growth at both campuses, we are facing significant space challenges across multiple areas:

  • Parking:
    • At the Bonner Campus, we park a significant number of cars offsite, creating an impression for guests that we lack room for them and their families.
      • There is also no guarantee that the offsite parking will always be available.
    • At the Legends Campus, we recently added 34 parking spots, most of which are filled weekly.
  • Worship Space:
    • Both campuses have grown consistently but are now limited by space constraints, similar to the growth and plateau we experienced prior to launching the second Bonner service and the Legends Campus.
  • Kids and Preschool:
    • Many rooms are at capacity, and additional space is required to accommodate current and future families.
    • Ensuring the safety and security of our children is paramount. A new facility will prioritize secure, age-appropriate spaces.
  • Student Space:
    • We have never had a dedicated, engaging space for middle and high school students. A fun and inviting environment will support outreach and discipleship for the next generation.
  • Community Space:
    • The entryways and foyers at both campuses are not conducive to fostering community. We lack adequate space for people to gather, connect, and deepen relationships before and after services.
  • Adult Small Group Space:
    • There is insufficient space for adult small groups, especially at the Bonner Campus, where only one group can meet per hour.

What were we looking for in a new location?
Our criteria for a new property included:

  • Proximity to K-7
  • Accessibility from the north and south on K-7
  • Adequate land size
  • Reasonable cost
  • Availability of utilities

After years of searching, in the summer of 2024, we expanded our search area to include additional options.

Where is the land?
The property is located on the west side of K-7 between 47th Street and Johnson Drive. It offers visibility from K-7, access to utilities, and entry points from both 47th Street and Johnson Drive.

What is the timeline?
We are in a 120-day due diligence period to:

  • Engage with the city for approvals
  • Conduct a feasibility study
  • Develop a master site plan
  • Ensure the land meets current and future ministry needs

We also have two optional 60-day extensions for this period. During this time, we will finalize architectural and building plans in preparation for breaking ground.

What are we building?
Specific details will be shared soon.

What will services and ministry look like in the future?
A new location will enable us to better fulfill our mission to Share Jesus, Disciple Believers, and Love People. We plan to launch with two services, allowing attendees to worship an hour and serve an hour.

Finances

What is the cost?

  • Land Price: $1,250,000
  • Overall cost estimates will be provided after builder and architect studies are completed.
  • We have engaged several consultants and do not have an exact cost for the development and building, but we plan to have that number in the coming months.

Will we incur debt?
We are engaging the Baptist Foundation and their bank partner for financing. For any loans we make directly with the Baptist Foundation, the interest we pay to the foundation will 100% go to the Baptist Foundation.

Additional information on debt will be presented as part of the 2025 budget at the January church meeting.

We are in an excellent position to pay the land debt in 2025, but we very much need financial support to take the next steps of developing the new building. We welcome any and all financial gifts to help us with our new land and building.

Will there be a building campaign?
In the months ahead, we will roll out a building campaign to raise funds for land development and building costs. We have a generous people, and we are praying God will provide all we need through the generosity of our people.

Current Impact

What will happen to our existing properties?
Both properties were gifted to us debt-free. We plan to maintain both campuses until the new building is complete, after which we will sell them.

What will ministry look like in the interim?
All ministries will continue as they are, with the potential for additional Sunday worship services in the next year to address space constraints.

Will this move impact current staffing?
All current staff positions will transition to the new location. Additional positions may be added in the future.

Mission

Will we continue to serve Bonner and KCK?
Yes, we will remain engaged in both communities by:

  • Partnering with local schools
  • Exploring options for a mobile food pantry to meet practical needs

How does this move fit into our Fellowship West mission and vision?
This move will significantly expand our ministry capacity, addressing space limitations that have hindered growth. Our mission to glorify God by sharing Jesus, discipling believers, and loving people will continue to drive every decision.

Will this move impact mission giving?
We remain committed to allocating 10% of our ministry budget to missions, a priority since our inception.
